The small town of Auvers-sur-Oise lies about 30 kilometres north of Paris. Van Gogh spent the last few months of his life here, and he and his younger brother are both buried in the town. Here he created many timeless masterpieces, including "The Church at Auvers" and "Wheatfield with Crows".
His former home, the Auberge Ravoux, is now a museum, and room 5, where he lived, still looks as it did then.
The town is also one of the artistic holy places of many Impressionist masters: Cézanne, Monet, Renoir and many other great artists left their footprints and their works here. It is still a gathering place for artists today, drawing them here to work and to live.
Strolling through Auvers-sur-Oise is like travelling back to the golden age of the Impressionist masters. Immerse yourself in the surrounding natural scenery, and admire the historic church, the museums and the galleries. Every moment here is like a painting, and every view may be a place where a master drew inspiration.

This route is also known as the "painters' path". It sets off from Auvers-sur-Oise station and passes Van Gogh's former home, the burial place of Van Gogh and his brother, the Musée Daubigny, the wheat field (where Van Gogh painted "Wheatfield with Crows"), the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption (the subject of one of Van Gogh's paintings, now in the Musée d'Orsay) and the Château d'Auvers; part of the way it follows the Oise, and it also crosses the beautiful natural scenery around the town. In fact there are traces of other masters' works along this route too; let's see whether the art lovers among you can recognise them as you walk. The route is a 16-kilometre loop, starting and finishing at "Auvers-sur-Oise railway station". It has 147 metres of ascent and 143 metres of descent, and is expected to take 5 hours. If you love the outdoors and love art, don't miss out: sign up quickly.
